Augustus Molade Akiwumi (OQ 1910-14) was the first of his family to study at Queen’s College Taunton. After
leaving Queen’s, he went on to study law at Cambridge and was appointed a Supreme Court Judge in Ghana. Between 1958 and 1960, he was Speaker of the Ghanaian Parliament and the second person to occupy the seat following Ghana’s independence in March 1957. Akilaja Akiwumi (OQ 1955 – 58) also attended Queen’s. After leaving he worked for the UNHCR and later became Ghana’s Ambassador to Egypt.In 2010 he was present at a family reunion at Queen’s attended by several generations of the family and its extended branches – the Renners, the Awooner-Renners and the Ward- Brews. They all met to mark 100 years of association with the school.
