I was a very sporty child and my parents were so happy when I was awarded a scholarship, but we still needed more help for me to be able to come to Queen’s. My family was so grateful when I was offered a bursary - it took so much worry away for me and my parents.
I would describe my time at Queen’s as ‘opportunity’. When I joined I was a swimmer, and loved athletics. Having the chance to play hockey was incredible. I ended up on the South West Pathway for hockey, which would never have happened if I hadn’t come to Queen’s. There was so much opportunity and support to try new things, and I was able to excel.
The opportunity to come to Queen’s means the world to me. I genuinely don’t know where I’d be if I hadn’t been given the bursary. Queen’s made me feel like I could do anything I wanted to. I had so much encouragement. Everyone has their moment and everyone is celebrated.
Looking back, my time at Queen’s were the best years of my life. As an Old Queenian, I’m proud to do what I can to support bursaries. It helps the school become more diverse. Some of the best people are never going to be able to afford an education.
