Archive Afternoon 2026

On Friday 24 April, more than forty Old Queenians returned to the school for our first Archive Afternoon—an opportunity to explore the archives, take a trip down memory lane, and reconnect with friends, both familiar and new.

The highlight of the afternoon was a fascinating presentation by Geoff Bisson, who traced the history of Queen’s and its evolution over more than 180 years—revealing just how much has changed over time. Geoff also brought along a remarkable collection of historical artefacts, including photographs, poetry, sporting memorabilia and even clothing, managing to find something that resonated with almost everyone in attendance.

Over lunch, many guests remarked on how much the food had improved since their school days, with some relief at the absence of fried bread and tinned tomatoes.

We are incredibly grateful to our Old Queenian community for their continued support of the school, in so many different ways. The Archive Afternoon was a powerful reminder of the strength of the Queen's community, the value of shared history, and the importance of lifelong connections.

It also highlighted somethign especially meaningful: the impact of leaving a legacy. Gifts in Wills help ensure that future generations of Queen's pupils can benefit from the same opportunities, experiences and sense of belonging that have shaped so many lives before them. You can find out more about remembering Queen's in your Will here.

Michelle, Geoff and I would like to thank everyone who joined us - it was a wonderful afternoon, and we hope to host similar events in the future for those who were unable to attend this time.

Those who attended were: Bryan Applegate (1965), Richard Baker (1965), Anne Broadley (former staff), Jim Darlington (1982), Mike Gough (1976), Chris Holland (1963), Catherine Hubbard (1972), Chris Hunt (1962), Paul Jacobs (1962), Sarah Joyner (former teacher), Saeed Khodahoost (1966), Guy Northcott (1963), Brian Palmer (1963), Mark Petherick (1971), Quentin Phillips (1982), Mervyn Roberts (former staff), Trevor Still (1977), Hugh Suter (1977), David Thackray (1966), Stuart Vile (1982), Jim Virjee (1965), Mike Willett (1981), Bill Williams (1961), Chris Hill (1981), Becky Elderton (1988) and Jim Wiltshire (1964).
