News from OQs |
The recent Remembrance Weekend was enjoyed by OQs, pupils, parents and friends of the school. The opportunity to socialise in Castle House (where Queen’s first started), on Saturday evening, attracted a modest number, there were many at Queen’s on the Sunday morning for events there.
The service of remembrance was led by Rev John Pedlar, OQ, (1957-62). Beginning in the Old Music Room, those present moved to the lawn, where they were joined by the two school hockey teams, for the laying of a wreath by Oscar Webb, President of the OQs, and the Last Post and Reveille played by Archie Wade (Year 10).
Whilst the team players moved to the astros to prepare for the matches between the school and the OQs, many took advantage of tea and coffee in the dining pavilion before watching the games. The weather was ideal for players and spectators. Both matches were close affairs with the score line in the men’s flattering the OQs.
About 150 watched the matches and enjoyed the chance to chat amongst themselves in the glorious sunshine. Many of them moved to the main dining hall after the competition for a simple buffet lunch during which the Headmaster presented the trophies to the two OQ captains, Sam Wansbrough and Jenny Thurstan.
