Old Queenians kickstarted the summer, connecting by the river for drinks in Bristol

On 20th May, Michelle and I hosted drinks by the river in Bristol alongside Julian Noad (Head of College), Jane Noad, Geoff Bisson and newly appointed Head of School, Robyn. We were joined by a lovely bunch of Old Queenians, with many bringing along memorabilia from times gone by.

A particular highlight was an appearance from James Gibbs (OQ 1963). Dressed in his Queen's cricket blazer, James brought along a beatutiful natural history book which was given to his Grandfather whilst at Queen's in 1893. James then shared the moving story that his Grandfather later enlisted during the First World War and tragically lost his life in action, giving the book an even greater sense of significance and history. Hedley Lomas (OQ 1961) also provided a fascinating glimpse into the past by bringing along an old school photograph, preserved in remarkable condition. It quickly became a real talking point among guests, sparking memories and conversations throughout the evening. Mark Petherick (OQ 1971) also had the chance to catch up with fellow OQ and best man to his wedding, Brian Hawthorn (1971) - it was lovely to witness such a longstanding and genuine friendship.

Those in attendance were: James Gibbs, Hedley Lomas, Brian Hawthorn, Chris Holland, Guy Northcott, Alex Malcolm, Richard Pedlar, Jim Virjee and Jim Wilshire.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make it such a warm, memorable, and thoroughly enjoyable evening.
